If you’re stuck on what to bring for a potluck on your next party then look no further because we have the perfect recipe for you. It’s the ultimate cookie recipe and here’s how you can make it.

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups butter, softened

2 cups white sugar

4 eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

5 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

Tools:

Car cookie cutter

Baking parchment paper

Mixer

Large bowl

What to do:

Make sure that you are preparing this all in one large bowl. Start off by creaming together your butter and sugar. Next, beat in your four eggs. After the eggs have been beaten in, add the vanilla extract and mix in. Make this mixture as smooth and creamy as you can. Now, stir in your flour, your baking soda and your salt. Mix this all together. If any flour rests against the side of your bowl, stop your mixer and use a spatula or spoon to mix it with the rest of the mixture. Once the mixture is holding together well, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and chill for at least an hour. If you have time, you can even leave it to chill overnight.

Once the dough is thoroughly chilled, you’re ready to roll out the dough and cut your cookies. Before you start rolling, pre-heat your oven to 400 degrees. Then dust your rolling surface with a little bit of flour. If you want, you could even dust with powdered sugar. Roll out the chilled dough until it’s about a quarter to a half inch thick. Whatever thickness you chose, make sure it’s consistent. Cut shapes with your car cookie cutters and leave the cookies about one inch apart on your parchment paper. Gather the remaining dough, roll it out again and keep cutting cookies until the dough is used up. Bake the cookies in your pre-heated oven for 6-8 minutes. You want them crisp, but not brittle. Once the cookies are cool, decorate them with your favorite frosting and enjoy.
